Patek Philippe Nautilus
One of the most contemporary Patek Philippe watches is the Nautilus, whose origin dates back to 1976. Being a departure from traditional Patek Philippe designs, the company wanted to head in a new direction and create a totally new sport watch with the Nautilus. To take on this challenge they commissioned Gerald Genta, the designer of the famous Audemars Piguet Royal Oak line, who was quoted claiming to have completed a sketch for the watch in five minutes while at a restaurant during the Basel Trade Fair.
The Nautilus design was inspired by the porthole shape of a transatlantic liner. With a distinct octagonal shaped bezel that is curved on each of the sides, Genta was able to create the watch’s uniquely round shape. The dial features horizontal embossed bars that give it a unique look, as well as white gold baton-shaped hour markers, a date window, and luminous hands. The bracelet also includes a folding clasp design that gives it personality.
